How the two capacity reports are handled. One traditional reconciliation proposes that 1 Kings gives the amount normally held for Temple use while 2 Chronicles gives the maximum capacity at the brim. A lower working level would reduce spilling and leave room for drawing water. The explanation becomes more geometrically plausible as the upper wall flares outward, because a small rise near a broad rim can add substantial volume. Neither passage, however, calls its figure a normal fill or a brim capacity. The explanation is plausible but unproven, so this calculator does not average the figures or use the Chronicles figure in its model.
