Seven Days, Then Look Again
The chapter is a procedure: examine, isolate for a fixed interval, examine again, decide on the basis of what changed. A fixed observation interval is an instrument, and every instrument has a resolution.

This calculator answers one question: what rate of change can a seven-day interval detect? The answer comes out both ways — three classes fall inside the passband, two fall outside — which is why the table is safe to print.
