At the center of Israel's camp stood a portable sanctuary. Its boards, bases, curtains, coverings, and furnishings could be assembled for worship and taken apart when the nation moved. Exodus describes that structure twice—first as instructions and then as completed work—turning the tabernacle into both a sacred place and a detailed transport problem.
